The PGA Trainee Program has evolved to be one of the worlds’ most recognised golf related training programs. Greg Norman, John Senden, Nick O’Hern, Peter Lonard and Rod Pampling are all former members of the PGA Trainee Program.

About

The PGA Trainee Program provides a platform to gain varied and valuable training and education within golf. Since its inception, the PGA Trainee Program has been producing PGA Professionals who have gone on to forge successful careers in both Vocational and Tournament areas.

 

A PGA Trainee works alongside fully qualified PGA Professionals at approved golf facilities around Australia and receives practical work experience and on the job training. In addition, Trainees gain access and play in a number of professional events for the duration of the program. Upon successful completion of the program graduates receive exclusive Membership to one of the oldest and most respected sporting associations in the world, the PGA.

Other Qualifications

  • Vocational (level 3) Golf Coach Accreditation endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission
  • Full Vocational Membership of the PGA of Australia

Area of study

Coaching: Knowledge and skills for golf coaching, leading to the highest level of coach accreditation in golf
Game Development: Strategies and skills to actively grow participation and enjoyment of the sport of golf.
Small Business: Strategic and operational skills for successfully operating business in the golf industry
Management: Skills and strategies relating to planning, organising and leading a golf club or golf organisation
Playing: Assessment of playing ability via competition in professional events

Employment Outcomes

The postgraduate employment rate is well above average, with 90 per cent of graduates gaining golf industry specific employment in their first year as a Member of the PGA. Employment opportunities for graduates of the PGA Trainee Program include, but are not limited to:

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the 2019 PGA Trainee Program applicants must:

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age or have completed Year 12.
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident with the ability to work unrestricted for the duration of the program.
  • Have attained a minimum of Year 12 or equivalent. If minimum Year 12 has not been attained an Aptitude Test will need to be completed.
  • Have a recommended Golf Australia handicap at the time of entry of the three (3) or better for males and six (6) or better for females
  • Undertake a playing test. Playing exemptions do exist for those who have a State Amateur Average that meets the PGA playing standard.
